Women's Volleyball Leaves Wildcat Invitational with Three-Match Winning Streak

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team is riding a three-match winning streak after today's defeats of Wilmington University and Millersville University to conclude play at the Wildcat Invitational.

Head Coach TJ Hajjar: "The team had a great weekend all around. Today was extremely exciting as the girls were able to find their groove and win both matches."

How It Happened
The Warriors dominated play after splitting two matches yesterday. Merrimack beat Wilmington 26-24, 26-24 and 28-26 to complete the three-set sweep.

Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) accounted for a match-high 21 kills on a .356 attack percentage. Sophomore Jennifer Cain (Melrose, Mass. ) smacked down 14 kills and only committed three errors on 31 total attacks.

Sophomore Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) amassed a double-double with 44 assists and 18 digs.

In the second match against Millersville, it was more of the same for Merrimack. The Warriors did drop the first set 28-26, but fought back to win the next three 25-10, 25-16 and 25-19.

Sheehan finished with 18 kills and 11 digs for her third double-double of the tournament. Sophomore Juliette McCall (Torrance, Calif.) had a strong match contributing 10 kills over three sets.

Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) controlled the middle for the Warriors, contributing one block solo and three block assists.

Inside The Numbers

  • At libero, junior Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) finished with a combined 38 digs. She led the Warriors in both matches in the digs department.
  • Sheehan eclipsed to 100-kill plateau today. She has 124 on the season and now has 1,254 in her career. She needs 143 kills to move into second place on the all-time list.  
  • Stuhr now averages 11.79 assists per set after this weekend, putting her in first in the NE-10.
  • Burke became the first Warrior this season to reach 100 digs.

Up Next
The Navy and Gold will have one week off before they return to the court for a doubleheader on Sunday, Sept. 21, at St. Anselm. The first match of the day will be at 1 p.m. against Georgian Court and then the Warriors will play the Hawks at 3 p.m.
