NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After winning their first four non-conference games of the season, the Merrimack College men's soccer team looks to continue that success in Northeast-10 play as they begin their conference slate this afternoon against Bentley University.

The Basics
Date/Time:
09/16 | 3:30 p.m.
Records:
Merrimack (4-0, 0-0 NE-10) | Bentley (1-3, 0-1 NE-10)
Location: Waltham, Mass.

Last Time Out:
The Warriors wrap up a three-game road swing today after playing the previous two games at the Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic. The Warriors went 2-0 at the tournament defeating LIU Post and, most recently, the University of Bridgeport.

Augusto Silva (Hudson, Mass.) and Alexander Alleyne (Swampscott, Mass.) scored the goals for the Warriors in a 2-1 victory. The score was a lot closer than the game entailed, as Merrimack controlled much of the possession and outshot the Purple Knights 21-5.

Both Silva and Alleyne scored for the second time this year, creating a three-way tie for the team lead in goals. Julio Leon Garcia (Caracas, Venezuela) and Rui Cardoso (Bristol, Conn.) each picked up their first assists of the season against Bridgeport.

Cardoso notched three points in three games last week, en route to his selection as NE-10 Rookie of the Week.

Last Season vs. Bentley
The Navy and Gold defeated the Falcons 2-1 at Martone-Mejail Field. Silva scored a first-half goal for Merrimack off an assist from Douglas Searl (Westford, Mass.).

With the game tied 1-1 in the second half, Henrique Etges (Venancio Aires, Brazil) scored the game-winning goal off a free kick in the 79th minute.

The Warriors are 4-1-1 in their last six games against the Falcons.

The Warriors:

  • Michael Rincon (Medford, Mass.) leads the team with six points and four assists through four games.
  • The Navy and Gold haven't entered league play undefeated since 2010, when they began the season 6-0
  • One of the main reasons for Merrimack's success this season has been depth: 12 players have recorded at least one point and nine players have tallied goals for the Warriors.

The Opponent:

  • Bentley is 1-3 on the season and is coming off a 4-2 conference loss to Southern Connecticut State University
  • The Falcons have only scored five goals over four games and are led by Scott Levy with five points
  • Jack Blatchford has played every minute for the Falcons in net, compiling a 1.75 goals against average and a .650 save percentage
