What They Said
Head coach Gabe Mejail: "I was impressed with how the girls reacted after playing just two days ago. We couldn't have started the week in a better way. It was also good to see some of our younger players and reserves get to make an impact on the game."
How It Happened
The Warriors left no doubt as to who was the superior team in this one, as Merrimack handed Bloomfield a 7-0 defeat.
Less than six minutes into the game Jenna Savi (Dedham, Mass.) scored off a feed from Megan Gada (Bozrah, Conn.) to give the Warriors the lead for good, 1-0.
Savi continued her strong play in the 20th minute when she score her fourth of the season and second of the game. She now leads the Warriors in goals (4) and points (11). Junior Deirdre Roberts (Braintree, Mass.) picked up her third assist of the year on the goal.
The rout was on from there. Playing their second game in three days, head coach Gabe Mejail went to his reserves early, and the decision paid dividends.
In the 32nd minute, freshman Andrea Rego (Dartmouth, Mass.) scored her first career goal. Alana Vecchiarello (Peabody, Mass.) picked up her first point of the night with an assist, and freshman Cori Gillen (Stow, Mass.) tallied her first career point with the primary assist on Merrimack's third goal of the night.
The Warriors capped off the first 45 minutes with a Vecchiarello goal. Victoria Carter (Smithfield, R.I.) picked up her second assist in as many games on the 40th minute tally.
It was more of the same in the second-half. The Navy and Gold scored twice in the first 25 minutes of the second-half. Both Mia Reed (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Katyann Grochmal (Derry, N.H.) scored their first career goals.
Vecchiarello wrapped up the scoring in the 88th minute with her second of the night and the Warriors seventh of the game.
Inside The Numbers
- Vecchiarello had a career game, tying a career high in goals (2) and recording her first career assist. After not tallying a point in the first six games of the year, she has seven points over the last two games.
- Four different Warriors recorded their first points of the season tonight. Three players notched their first career goal and one Warrior tallied her first career assist.
- Meghan Gulbrandsen (Haverhill, Mass.) and Molly Meehan (Fairfield, Conn.) combined to make one save apiece over 90 minutes of action.
- Seven goals scored marks the most Merrimack has tallied since they scored 11 in a game back in 2007, also against Bloomfield.
