What They Said
Head coach Tony Martone: "The guys had to battle through the poor conditions, as well as a very stout Assumption game plan to get a win tonight. I was proud of how the guys competed, especially a couple players thrust into extended playing time. It was good to bounce back after Saturday's loss."

How It Happened
Coming off a defeat to No. 5 Southern Connecticut State University, it was two freshmen who headlined the second overtime victory of the season for the Warriors.

Goalkeeper Lucas Rezende (Weymouth, Mass.) made his first career start, replacing Jose Silva (Northborough, Mass.) who missed the game due to suspension after picking up a red card on Saturday night. Rezende was composed, only having to make one save. He displayed a strong leg in the punting game, and cut off a through ball at the beginning of the first overtime, not allowing an Assumption breakaway.

Forward Michael Dushman (Bedford, Mass.), only making his fourth appearance of the year, scored in the 106th minute to send the fans home happy. It was Dushman's first career goal after being inserted into the game in the 103rd minute for the first time all night.

Michael Rincon (Medford, Mass.) picked up his team-leading fifth assist on the goal. He corralled an errant cross from Augusto Silva (Hudson, Mass.) on the left-side of the box, and sent it back into the six-yard box. Dushman was able to get his right foot on the ball, flicking it past Assumption goalie Dana King.

Before overtime, Merrimack dominated play, outshooting the Greyhounds 21-5 in regulation. The best chance for Assumption came in the 72nd minute when Hector Sola-Morla hit one off the cross bar.

Inside The Numbers

  • Augusto Silva picked up his first assist of the season, moving him into a tie for second on the team in points (7).
  • Including overtime, the Warriors outshot the Greyhounds 24-5.
  • King was fabulous in net for the Greyhounds, accounting for eight saves and nearly carrying his team to at least a draw.
  • Junior Jonathan Fletcher (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and senior Ignacio Farias (West Roxbury, Mass.) both made their first starts of the season.
  • Dushman joins Farias as the Warriors who have scored overtime winners this year. In fact, both players had their first career goals come in overtime.
