Volleyball Begins Two-Match Week Tonight vs. St. Anselm (7 p.m.)

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College volleyball team continues a three-match homestand tonight, with a contest against Northeast-10 rival St. Anselm at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out:
The Warriors are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Southern Connecticut State University in Merrimack's NE-10 opener.

Sophomore Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Warriors attack with 30 assists. She leads the conference averaging 11.00 assists per match.

Middle blocker Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) also put together a strong match. The senior totaled nine kills with only one error and led the team with three block assists.

Senior Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) continues her stellar play at outside hitter. Her 4.83 kills per set and 169 kills lead the conference. She sits 97 kills out of second place on Merrimack's all-time list and needs one kill to reach 1300 for her career.

Earlier This Season vs. St. Anselm:
The Navy and Gold notched their first five-set victory of the season nine days ago in a match against the Hawks up in Manchester, N.H.

Sheehan and sophomore Jennifer Cain (Melrose, Mass.) each tallied double-doubles in the victory. Sheehan totaled 21 kills and 13 digs while Cain compiled 13 kills and 11 digs.

The Warriors fell behind 2-1, but stormed back for the victory, taking the fourth and fifth sets 25-16 and 15-8, respectively.

The Hawks:

  • Since playing Merrimack, St. Anselm has gone 1-1 in two matches. The Hawks lost a four-set match to Southern New Hampshire, but rebounded to defeat American International in their last match.
  • Sophomore Micaela Donatio leads the Hawks with 34 blocks and is first in the NE-10, averaging 0.97 blocks per set.

The Navy and Gold will play in the highly anticipated NE-10 Championship rematch against the University of New Haven, Friday night, at Bert Hammel Court at 7 p.m.
