NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team won its first match of 2014, defeating St. Michael's in four sets. Three Warriors finished with double-digit kills, led by senior outside hitter Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) with 14.

How It Happened
The Navy and Gold took the first set 25-14 before dropping the second set 25-22. The Warriors then roared back to win the match, taking the third and fourth sets by the score of 25-21.
Sophomore Jennifer Cain (Melrose, Mass.) had a strong afternoon, accumulating 11 kills and only two errors. Middle blocker Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) displayed her offensive skillset, adding 10 kills of her own.
Setter
Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the way with a match-high 41 assists. Defensively, Sheehan paved the way with 17 digs, starting her season with back-to-back double-doubles. Cain also doubled up with 13 digs of her own.
Inside The Numbers
- Libero Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) had a strong outing, totaling 12 digs.
- Sheehan was precise and accurate with her attacks. Along with her 14 kills, she only committed four errors on 33 total attacks for an attack percentage of .303.
- Gosselin led all players with four block solos.
Up Next
The Warriors will travel to Wilmington, Del. to play in the Wildcat Invitational next weekend. On Friday, Sept. 12, Merrimack faces Holy Family and Dowling with the first match starting at 3 p.m. On Saturday the Navy and Gold conclude play in the Invitational against host Wilmington and Millersville.
