Dobecki's Two Goals Lead #8 Field Hockey Past American International for Sixth-Straight Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Lindsay Dobecki (Scarborough, Maine) posted her first-career two goal game to lead the eighth-ranked Merrimack College field hockey team over American International College for their sixth-straight win on Saturday afternoon.

Head coach Anne Rounce, "Good team win, we saw some really nice passing plays throughout the game. We had strong execution on our corners and were able to score on two of them. It was a hard fought game, but we need to focus and prepare for Bentley who will be a tough opponent."
How It Happened
The Warriors came out of the gate flying in the opening half and would score all three of their goals in the first. Sophomore Rylie Hammond (Phillipston, Mass.) got the scoring started for Merrimack, putting back a rebound off a shot from freshman Mary McNeil (Canton, Mass.) in just the seventh minute of the game.
Merrimack's final two goals of the half, and game, would both come from Dobecki , would both be scored with under two minutes to play in the first half, and would both come off of penalty corners. Her first would come at 33:51 in the first off an assist from Hammond. It appeared the Warriors would head to halftime with a two-goal lead, but Dobecki had other plans. Merrimack would be awarded a penalty corner at the end of the half with the clock expired. McNeil would take the corner and deliver the ball to Dobecki who found the back of the net to end the half and give Merrimack a 3-0 lead.
Three goals would be all the Warriors needed to come away with their sixth-straight win, as the Yellow Jackets would answer with two of their own in the second half, but it would not be enough. Senior goalkeeper Madison Davis (San Jose, Calif.) would make four big saves for the Warriors in the game.
Inside The Numbers
- The Warriors nearly doubled the Yellow Jackets shot production in the game, outshooting them by a margin of 23-12
- McNeil's two assists in the game now put her at 23 points on the season, good enough for second in the Northeast-10 Conference
- With her goal on Saturday, Hammond has now scored in six of the last eight games for the Warriors
