Men's Tennis Defeats Roberts Wesleyan, 6-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team opened dual match play for the 2015-16 season with a 6-3 victory over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon from the Roberts Wesleyan College Tennis Complex.

How It Happened
Merrimack's duo at first doubles last season, junior captain Steven Francis (Perth, Australia) and sophomore Mikhail Belov (Krasnoarmeyskoy, Russia), debuted with a 8-2 victory at No. 1. Senior captain Miguel Belfort (Caracas, Venezuela) and new partner Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) continued their strong fall with an 8-1 victory at No. 2.
Sophomore Frank Vega (Lima, Peru) and freshman Tyler Clontz (Naples, Fla.) trotted out at No. 3 and left with an 8-6 victory as the Warriors swept doubles action.
At singles play, Vega played at No. 1 for the first time in his career. The sophomore lost in straight sets, as did freshman Alex Slobin (Fairfield, Conn.) at No. 6 in making his singles debut for the Navy and Gold.
The Warriors clinched the match with strong play at No. 3-5. Belfort moved past his opposition in straight sets at No. 3 as did Belov at fourth singles. Majewski, another assistant captain for the Warriors, won, 6-2 and 6-4, for Merrimack's final point of the afternoon.
