How It Happened
New Haven would find the back of the net first and would score the lone goal of the first half. Marisa Garcia would net her NE-10-leading 10th goal of the season at 11:07 in the first half. The goal would be the first and last time the Chargers would score in the game as the Warriors would pick up their defensive pressure immediately after the score.
The Warriors first goal in the second half was scored by senior Jenna Savi (Dedham, Mass.) on an awarded penalty kick in the 54th minute. The penalty was created by sophomore Andrea Rego (Dartmouth, Mass.), who would carry the ball into the box and be taken down just before firing off a shot.
The game-winning goal would come off some great touch passes from a pair of freshman. McKenna Moore (Seattle, Wash.) would deliver a pass to Erika Scott (Mendon, Mass.) who quickly delivered a cross into the box. Awaiting the cross was sophomore Sarah Boucher (Northbridge, Mass.) who one-timed the ball from close range into the net to give Merrimack the 2-1 lead, where it would finish.
