Women's Tennis Prevails at Roberts Wesleyan, 6-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Captains Grace Messina (Carcas, Venezuela) and Chealsey Giatrelis (Centerville, Mass.) combined to go 4-0 on the day including straight-set singles wins as the Merrimack College women's tennis team defeated Roberts Wesleyan, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.

How It Happened
Messina paired with freshman Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) at first doubles to win by a 8-1 score. Giatrelis followed suit with sophomore Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) to prevail at No. 2, 8-6.
Third doubles pitted freshmen Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) and Celine Mende (Shrewsbury, Mass.) against the third pairing for the Redhawks. The rookies could not win, losing by four points and ushering in singles play with the Warriors holding a 2-1 lead.
The Navy and Gold won in straight sets at No. 1-3 to put the match away. Messina and Giatrelis, at first and second singles respectively, lost a combined three games in the four combined sets they played. Seifaei won a 7-5 opening frame at No. 3 before a 6-3 final gave her the match in the second set.
Sophomore Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) returned to the singles lineup at No. 6, winning in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 10-6).
Northeast-10 Postseason Outlook
The top-six programs qualify for the NE-10 Championship with the top-two seeds receiving byes to the semifinals; Merrimack plays Le Moyne tomorrow in its regular-season finale. A victory clinches a fourth-place finish for the Warriors.
