#6 Field Hockey Looks to Make it Eight-Straight at Southern New Hampshire Thursday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The sixth-ranked Merrimack College field hockey team will try to extend its win streak to eight games when they visit the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen on Thursday night.

Last Time Out:
The Warriors won the seventh-straight game and extended their undefeated streak at home to 6-0 in 2015 when they beat Bentley 5-2 this past Tuesday at Martone-Mejail Field. Merrimack would score twice in the first half, and then score three unanswered goals in a three-minute span in the second half to top the Falcons.
The Warriors would get their five goals from four different players, including two goals from sophomore Rylie Hammond (Phillipston, Mass.) and the first goal of the season for junior Maura Doyle (Merrimac, Mass.). Freshman Mary McNeil (Canton, Mass.) would post two assists in the game.
Last Season vs. Southern N.H.:
The Warriors would dominate the two-game season series between these two squads in 2014, winning both games by a combined score of 14-1, including an 8-0 win in their first match of the season in Manchester, N.H. Senior captain Sydney Bowker (Schenectady, N.Y.) scored twice in the first contest last season, while sophomore Taylor Simpson (York, Maine) would score four times in the second win.
The Warriors:
- Merrimack is currently the second-most potent offense in the Northeast-10 Conference, averaging 3.3 goals per game, and are averaging four goals per game during their win streak.
- Hammond has been on fire as of late, scoring eight goals in the last seven games, with goals coming in six of those seven contests.
- McNeil continues to contend for NE-10 Rookie of the Year as she sits second in the conference in goals (9) and points (25) behind only a senior.
The Penmen:
- The Penmen are 2-11 on the season thus far after winning their first two games of the season, but have since lost 11 straight.
- Forward Amaris Taylor leads Southern New Hampshire in scoring, leading her team in goals (4) and points (9).
Up Next
The Warriors return home for a huge NE-10 matchup with Assumption on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The Greyhounds are undefeated in the conference and are the only team above Merrimack in the NE-10 standings.
