NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The sixth-ranked Merrimack College field hockey team will host its second top-10 opponent in three days on Friday as eighth-ranked Adelphi will visit Martone-Mejail Field on Senior Day for the Warriors.

The Basics
Date/Time:
Oct. 23, 2015 | 4:30 p.m.
Records: #6 Merrimack (11-3, 7-2 NE-10)
| Adelphi (12-3, 8-1 NE-10)
Location:
Martone-Mejail Field |North Andover, Mass.

Last Time Out:
The Warriors saw their eight-game win streak snapped by #7 Assumption when they suffered just their third loss of the season to the Greyhounds on Wednesday. Merrimack's lone goal in the loss would be scored by freshman Mary McNeil (Canton, Mass.) off of a nice tip on a shot from the stick of senior Christine Zubkus (Dover, N.H). Senior goalkeeper Madison Davis (San Jose, Calif.) made eight saves in net during the game, including some of the highlight-reel caliber.

NE-10 Postseason Outlook:
The top-six programs in the NE-10 standings advance to the NE-10 Championship, with the top-two teams receiving a bye. The three and four seeds will host quarterfinal matchups on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The Warriors have two games remaining in the regular season following the matchup with No. 8 Adelphi on Friday.

1. Assumption (9-0)
2. Adelphi (8-1)
3. Stonehill (8-2)
4Merrimack (7-2)
5. Saint Anselm (6-3)
6. LIU Post (5-4)
7. Bentley (5-4)
8. Franklin Pierce (4-5)

Last Season vs. Adelphi:
The lone meeting between these two teams last season would come in early October 2014. Just like this season, Adelphi was ranked eighth nationally when Merrimack traveled to Garden City, N.Y. for their matchup. The Panther would win that contest in overtime, 3-2. Then freshmen and now sohpomores Taylor Simpson (York, Maine) and Rylie Hammond (Phillipston, Mass.) would score for the Warriors in the game.

The Warriors:

  • This is the first time Merrimack has had to play back-to-back top-10 nationally ranked teams since 2013, when they played #5 LIU Post and #9 Bentley in consecutive games. The Warriors would drop the first game to LIU, but beat Bentley in a shutout.
  • McNeil's goal on Wednesday was her 11th of the season, which is tied for second in the NE-10. Her 30 points are good enough for third.
  • Currently in fourth, a win on Friday would bump the Warriors up to second in the NE-10.

The Panthers:

  • Adelphi is 12-3 on their season including 8-1 in NE-10 play. They currently sit second in the conference and are on a nine-game winning streak.
  • Molly Cuevas lead the scoring for the Panthers in 2015, as she is tied with McNeil for second in the conference with 11 goals. She has one more assist than McNeil with nine, which also put her point total one point higher at 31.

Up Next
The Warriors play their second to last game of the regular season when they head out to Stonehill for a matchup with the Skyhawks on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
