NE-10 Showdown Between AIC and Women's Volleyball Commences Friday (7 p.m.)

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Looking to bounce back after a Northeast-10 Conference defeat on Tuesday night, the Merrimack College women's volleyball team returns to Hammel Court on Friday night as the Warriors host American International at 7 p.m. The Navy and Gold and the Yellow Jackets are currently tied for eighth in the NE-10 standings.

Despite holding leads in both the first and second sets, the Warriors were unable hold on against the Franklin Pierce Ravens on Tuesday night up in Rindge, N.H. The Ravens currently sit among the top-three teams in the NE-10 after improving to 5-1 against Merrimack.
Sophomore Christina Nye (Plaistow, N.H.) led the Warriors with 12 kills and 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Freshman Sofia Basauri (Beaverton, Ore.) and sophomore Mary Kate McCarroll (Harrison, Ohio) both hit over .300, coming for 14 kills on 30 attacks.
Senior libero Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) led three Warriors in double figures with 16 digs, finishing with the match high. Junior setter Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) totaled 40 assists, averaging over 13.00 per set.
Burke moved into fifth place in the conference after her performance against the Ravens with an average of 5.45 digs per set. Stuhr maintained her conference lead with 10.25 assists per set, as she is the lone player in the conference averaging in doubles figures. Junior outside hitter Jennifer Cain (Melrose, Mass.) remained in third place in the NE-10 after Tuesday with 3.44 kills per frame.
Last Season at AIC:
The Navy and Gold won the first and fourth sets by 25-7 scores as the Warriors defeated the Yellow Jackets, 3-1, out in Springfield last season.
Burke led all players with 18 digs, while Stuhr contributed 40 helpers. Juliette McCall (Torrance, Calif.) finished with a .286 attack percentage with six kills on 14 attacks.
The Yellow Jackets:
- AIC enters Friday's matchup tied with the Warriors in the league standings. The Yellow Jackets have alternated wins and losses over their last five contests, including a straight-set victory over Assumption in their most recent match
- Natalija Dordevic leads the conference with nearly four kills per set (3.82). She also has been effective in the middle, recording 41 block assists on the season
- Lauren Pires presents a formidable force as a blocker, ranking third in the NE-10 with 1.04 blocks per set. Libero Mercy Rivera leads the team with 5.31 digs per set
