How It Happened
The Warriors would start the game with an early power play just over a minute in to the first period, providing an opportunity to establish early momentum in their second meeting with the Huskies this season. Merrimack would be unable to capitalize and Connecticut would strike first with a goal at 12:51 of the opening period and take a 1-0 lead to the first intermission
The Huskies would add two more goals in the second period to extend their lead to 3-0. Both scores would be the result of two of the three power plays Merrimack had to try to kill off in the period and the game overall.
Delarbre's goal would come with 4:25 remaining in the third period with the Warriors trailing 3-0 to cut the deficit to two. The junior captain would manage to fire off a shot while lying on the ice that found the back of the net for her third of the year to give the Warriors some life late in the game.
Still down 3-1 with just under one minute remaining, Merrimack would pull freshman goaltender Kate Kowalchuk (Chestermere, Alberta) from the net and soon after get a power play opportunity with 40 seconds to go. But just 13 seconds later Connecticut would put in a shorthanded empty-net goal to seal the game at 4-1.
