Women's Soccer Travels to Southern New Hampshire for NE-10 Quarterfinals

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The fifth-seeded Merrimack College women's soccer team will begin postseason action on Tuesday when they travel to fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire for a quarterfinal matchup in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Tuesday.

Last Time Out:
The Warriors had their Senior Day spoiled on Halloween this past Saturday as they fell to 17th-ranked Saint Rose by a score of 2-1 in Merrimack's regular season finale. The Golden Knights scored both of their goals in a five minute span in the first half, while freshman Gigi Guenther (Webster, Mass.) gave the Warriors some life with a score in the 74th minute, but it would be the only goal the Warriors would net.
Earlier This Season vs. Southern N.H.:
The Warriors and the Penmen first met this season during the first week of October in North Andover. The Penmen entered the game ranked 19th in the country and riding a six-game win streak. The Warriors would beat Southern New Hampshire by a score of 1-0 in thrilling fashion, as sophomore Andrea Rego (Dartmouth, Mass.) scored the game-winner in the 89th minute to propel Merrimack to the win.
The Warriors:
- Senior Jenna Savi (Dedham, Mass.) closed out the regular season with an NE-10-leading 12 assists to go along with six goals for a team-high 24 points.
- Merrimack can expect an even and defensive matchup. Since 2012, the Warriors are an even 2-2 against the Penmen in four games played. The final score of all four of those games was 1-0.
- Sophomore Victoria Carter (Smithfield, R.I.) finished the regular season with the team-lead in goals (7) to go along with three assists for 17 points.
The Penmen:
- After posting a 9-3-2 record in NE-10 play during the regular season, the Penmen clinched their first NE-10 Championship Tournament berth since 2012.
- Sophomore Trisha Luis was the leading scorer for Southern New Hampshire during the regular season, tallying a team-high seven goals and two assists for 16 points, also a team-high. Six of her seven goal have been game winners.
- After Luis, Gabby Cappello is second on the team with three goals, then five different players are tied for third with two goals on the season.
Up Next
With a win on Tuesday, the Warriors would advance to play in the semifinals on Friday where they would play the winner of eighth-seeded Southern Connecticut and first seed Adelphi. The higher seed will host that semifinal match.
