How It Happened
Georgian Court tacked on its only run of the game in the bottom of the first after Alycia Marsello doubled to left center against sophomore Haley Currie (Burlington, Mass.), plating the game's opening salvo.

But Currie would let nothing else the rest of the way, stringing together six dominant innings that featured eight strikeouts, no walks, and only eight hits allowed in total.

Merrimack's offense had a quick response in the top of the second, as senior Jennifer Post (Orange, Conn.) tied things up on a sacrifice fly that brought in freshman Abby Desrosiers (Chelmsford, Mass.) to make it 1-1.

Two scoreless innings ensued before Merrimack scored the winning run in the top of the fifth; with sophomore Mariah Tenney (Winchendon, Mass.) aboard at second, the speedster stole third and then came home on an error to lift the Warriors to a 2-1 advantage.

Currie kept Georgian Court at bay in the fifth, and then her offense exploded for eight more runs in the top of the sixth; first, senior Becca Armstrong (Methuen, Mass.) got the rout started with a homer to straightaway center. Junior Brittany Razo (Anaheim, Calif.) came in on a bases-loaded fielders chose to up the lead to 4-1, and after Tenney reloaded the bases with a single, classmate Samantha Waskowitz (Killingworth, Conn.) drilled her first career grand slam to left center, plating Tenney, Currie, sophomore Morgan Phipps (Melrose, Mass.) and herself to push the lead to 8-1.

Still unsatisfied, Armstrong later singled in classmate Stephanie Lapierre (Berlin, Conn.) before Currie concluded the offensive outburst with another RBI base hit to bring in Armstrong before the eight-run, seven-hit inning finally ended.

Currie retired the side in order in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the eight-run mercy rule and end the game.

Unfortunately, the Warriors cooled off in the second and third games of the afternoon. California (Pa.), which was receiving votes in the most recent NFCA national rankings, handed Merrimack its first setback of the year (11-0) before the Warriors stumbled against Saint Joseph's (Ind.), 10-1, to round out the day.
