Men's Track & Field Enjoys Successful Performance at MIT Sean Collier Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Merrimack College men's track and field team was highlighted by a second- and third-place finishes from sophomore John Braga (North Reading, Mass), as the Warriors competed at the Sean Collier Invitational on Saturday at MIT in Cambridge. The Warriors secured 12 top-10 finishes on the afternoon.

How It Happened
Teammates Taylor Jean-Gilles (Woburn, Mass.) and Anthony Arcari (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished tied for sixth in the 100 meters, each crossing the finish line in 11.21 seconds. Jean-Gillies also finished sixth in the 200 meters, clocking in at 22.51 seconds. There were more than 50 runners in each event.

In the 1500 meters, Luis Cruz (Lawrence, Mass.) shined, finishing seventh in 4:04.66; there were 76 runners in the event. Phil Harris (Plymouth, Mass.) finished sixth in the 5000 meters, crossing the line in 15:39.47.

John Spencer (North Haven, Conn.) was Merrimack's highest finisher on the day, taking second place in the 110 hurdles in 15.90 seconds and John Braga (North Reading, Mass.) finished third in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 55.96 seconds, which was just under one second from the leader.

Keith Steinbrecher (Wading River, N.Y.) continued his impressive season in the 3000 steeple, taking second place in 10:06.24. Merrimack's 4x400 relay team took third place.

In the field events, Braga took second place in the high jump, hitting 6-4. Kenny Clarke (Oakland, N.J.), who raked in a handful of NE-10 Rookie of the Week awards in the winter season, was just behind him in third place. Braga also finished eighth in the pole vault.

Matt Mudgett (Lancaster, Mass.) finished top-10 in the discuss, taking ninth overall with a throw of 123-10.50 and Tommy Drover (Peabody, Mass.) finished seventh overall in the javelin, hitting a mark of 162-10.25 with his throw.

Merrimack will hit the track again next Saturday, when the Warriors travel to the Stonehill Invitational in Easton.
