How It Happened
After splitting yesterday's doubleheader, the two sides returned to the diamond with an important divisional victory and, more importantly, the season series up for grabs.

Merrimack kept the momentum going from its 11-1 victory yesterday right into the start of Sunday's affair, as the Warriors soared out of the gate with five runs in the top of the first before adding three more in the top of the second.

Junior Alexis Perry (Westford, Vt.) drove in the first two runs on a double to the gap in right center before a sacrifice fly made it 3-0. Senior Becca Armstrong (Methuen, Mass.)  singled in a run later in the frame before classmate Lindsay Gibbs (Acton, Mass.) rounded out the five-run output by scoring on a wild pitch.

In the second, the Warriors manufactured three runs without a hit, as a bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch, and a fielder's choice plated three more tallies to lift the Warriors out to an 8-0 edge.

The Purple Knights avoided the mercy rule by grabbing a run in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be all the hosts would muster, as Merrimack secured the season series with its second win in three tries over Saint Michael's.

Inside The Numbers

  • Both Perry and sophomore Samantha Waskowitz (Killingworth, Conn.) enjoyed two-hit afternoons, while 10 different Warriors hit safely
  • Perry started on the mound and tossed scoreless frames before sophomore Haley Currie (Burlington, Mass.) followed up with a couple scoreless innings with three strikeouts, no walks and one hit allowed to improve to 6-7 on the season
  • Freshman Courtney Zambello (Sharon, Mass.) came on in relief in the fifth inning and pitched the final three frames, surrendering an earned run while striking out one
  • Perry and senior Stephanie Lapierre (Berlin, Conn.) each finished with two RBIs, while sophomore Mariah Tenney (Winchendon, Mass.) garnered the only stolen base of the game
  • Merrimack finished 5-for-12 (.417) with runners in scoring position, while Saint Michael's went 0-for-7

Up Next
After wrapping up a stretch of 16 games in just over a week, the Warriors will break tomorrow before beginning the final week of the regular season on Tuesday (April 21) with a single game at Bentley beginning at 3:30 p.m.
