WALTHAM, Mass. – The Merrimack College softball team concluded the 2015 campaign with its third straight win to close out the year, as the Warriors topped Bentley, 4-0, in a Sunday afternoon matchup in Waltham.

How It Happened
Despite taking 2-of-3 against Saint Anselm over the past two days, Merrimack entered Sunday knowing that the Northeast-10 Conference Championship field had already been set regardless of the Warriors' result against Bentley.

Despite that fact, Merrimack put together one of its most complete performances of the season on both ends of the diamond, using timely hitting, stellar defense and fabulous pitching to conclude the 2015 season with the team's third straight victory to round out the year.

After two scoreless frames, Merrimack got on the board with a three-spot in the top of the third, as a two-RBI base hit from sophomore Haley Currie (Burlington, Mass.) put the visitors in front by two before senior Stephanie Lapierre (Berlin, Conn.) brought in Currie by means of a double, staking the Warriors a 3-0 edge after three frames.

Two innings later, Merrimack added insurance using some small ball; sophomore Mariah Tenney (Winchendon, Mass.) singled to start, took two bases on a sacrifice bunt and scored thanks to a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-0 lead that would go unchanged the rest of the way.

Meanwhile on the mound, a quartet of Merrimack hurlers combined for seven shutout innings; Currie, junior Alexis Perry (Westford, Vt.), freshman Courtney Zambello (Sharon, Mass.) and classmate Megan Cook (Bellingham, Mass.), in that order, all tossed two innings except for the latter, who finished it off with a 1-2-3 seventh to end the year on a winning note.

Inside The Numbers

  • Tenney finished with two of Merrimack's five hits and scored twice
  • Currie's two RBIs led the way, while Lapierrie finished with the only extra-base hit of the game (2B)
  • Sophomore Samantha Waskowitz (Killingworth, Conn.) garnered two of Merrimack's four stolen bases
  • The Warrior defense committed no errors on the day
  • Zambello wound up with the victory on the mound, finishing the year with four wins, as each pitcher totaled a strikeout
