How It Happened
The first half would go by scoreless as both teams showcased potent defenses throughout as well as some quality goalkeeping. Senior goalkeeper Meghan Gulbrandsen (Haverhill, Mass.) made three big saves for the Warriors in the first half to keep the Dolphins off the scoreboard. As he has done in every game this season, head coach Gabe Mejail would switch up keepers at halftime, reverting to sophomore Molly Meehan (Fairfield, Conn.) for the second.
The Warriors would strike first in the second half when sophomore Victoria Carter (Smithfield, R.I.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Carter's goal came on a beautiful header from 20 yards out off a corner from Savi that she was able to loft high over the keeper and just under the crossbar to give Merrimack the lead.
Le Moyne would answer just two minutes later when Kelly Ristoff would score a goal emulating Carter's, netting a header off of a corner, but from 10 yards closer, to tie the game.
In the 62nd minute of the game, Savi would repeat her heroics from just a week ago in a win over St. Michael's, scoring a goal nearly identical to the one that gave the Warriors the win last Saturday. Receiving a nice feed from freshman Gigi Guenther (Webster, Mass.), Savi made a move around a defender and ripped a shot with her left foot from 30 yards out that would hook by the keeper to the top right corner, securing the win.
