NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior libero Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) of the Merrimack College women's volleyball team earned Northeast-10 Conference Libero of the Week honors after helping the Warriors to a 2-1 record at the Wilmington University Tournament over the weekend.
Burke averaged 6.63 digs per set, recording at least 15 in each match, as Merrimack came away with victories against East Stroudsburg and Dominican. In a five-set victory over East Stroudsburg to begin the tournament, Burke notched 37 digs, the most she has had in a match in two years and the second highest single-match total of her career.
One of three team captains, Burke also led the Navy and Gold with seven service aces. Through eight matches this season, Burke leads Merrimack with 132 digs for an average of 4.89 per set. She has posted at least 10 digs in six of eight matches so far in 2015.
Earlier this season, the fourth-year player moved into sole possession of second place all-time in Merrimack history in career digs. She currently has 1,615 career digs, less than 400 away from becoming the second player ever to reach 2,000 in Warriors history.
Merrimack opens its 2015 home schedule on Tuesday night against Bentley at 7 p.m. The match also marks the beginning of NE-10 play for both programs.
