Women's Volleyball Travels to SNHU Thursday (7 p.m.)

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team travels to Southern New Hampshire on Thursday evening for a non-conference match at 7 p.m. from the SNHU Fieldhouse. The Warriors and Penmen were originally scheduled to play last week, but the match was postponed due to a power outage in Manchester.

Last Time Out:
The Warriors lost their Northeast-10 Conference opener, 3-1, to Bentley University on Tuesday night from Hammel Court. Junior outside hitter Jennifer Cain (Melrose, Mass.) led the way with 20 kills, tying her career high, to go along with eight digs.

Junior setter Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) paced the Warriors with 44 assists and 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. Senior libero Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) led all Warriors with 14 digs, while sophomore Christina Nye (Plaistow, N.H.) set a new personal best with 12 digs.

Cain leads the team with 2.58 kills per set with classmate Juliette McCall (Torrance, Calif.) pacing the squad in total kills (75). Stuhr sits less than 30 assists from 300 for the year and has an average of 8.77 per set. Burke owns 146 digs (4.71/set), good for eighth in the conference.

Last Season vs. Southern N.H.:
Merrimack played Southern N.H. twice last season, with the road team winning each contest in five sets. In the opening match, a loss for the Warriors, Stuhr totaled 53 assists for her second-highest total of the year. Burke added 29 digs to lead four Warriors who finished with at least 10 digs.

In the match that the Navy and Gold won, Stuhr nearly pulled off a triple-double. In addition to her typical assists (37) and digs (14) totals, the setter registered seven digs with zero errors on 11 total attacks for a .636 hitting percentage.

The Penmen:

  • SNHU has played 12 matches this season, splitting all 12 including a 1-1 record in conference play. The Penmen defeated Saint Michael's in three sets before falling to Franklin Pierce in straight sets on Tuesday
  • After averaging over 10 assists per set and 2.13 digs per frame, senior Catherine Cotton was named the NE-10 Setter of the Week on Monday. She leads the Penmen with 9.90 helpers per set, appearing in all 12 matches
  • Sophomore Marisa Coronis averages 3.00 kills per set to lead SNHU, notching 117 total kills in 39 sets. Senior libero Maeghan Higgins currently has 172 digs (4.41/set) to pace the  Penmen

Up Next
The Warriors return home on Tuesday for a NE-10 matchup against Saint Michael's at 7 p.m. from Hammel Court. Merrimack defeated the Purple Knights, 3-1, in the season opener earlier in September.
