Stretch Run for Men's Soccer Begins Wednesday vs. Stonehill (7 p.m.)

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's soccer team begins the final two weeks of the regular season on Wednesday night when the Warriors host Stonehill at 7 p.m. at Martone-Mejail Field. The Navy and Gold play three of their final four regular-season games on campus.

Last Time Out:

  • Merrimack suffered just its second Northeast-10 loss of the season, 1-0, on Saturday at Franklin Pierce
  • The Ravens netted the night's lone goal in the 86th minute, scoring off a set piece. Merrimack still holds a three-point lead over Franklin Pierce for second place in the conference
  • Entering the week, senior Jaime Cortes Torres (Seville, Spain) and sophomore Lars Sund (Stavanger, Norway) are tied for the team lead with 12 points. Cortes Torres paces the squad with five goals, while Sund has emerged as one of the top playmakers on the team with four goals and four assists
  • Junior left back Mattia Lanzi (Viterbo, Italy) saw his four-game point streak snapped on Saturday, despite ringing a shot off the crossbar in the first half. Lanzi has set career highs in points (9) and assists (5) through 13 games

Last Season vs. Stonehill:

  • Merrimack collected a 3-0 triumph over Stonehill in Easton last season
  • Cortes Torres and senior classmate Joseph Briers (Nottingham, England) notched two of the Warriors' three goals
  • Briers added an assist on Cortes Torres' strike, while Alexander Alleyne (Swampscott, Mass.) also picked up a point with a helper

The Skyhawks:

  • Stonehill currently sits in the eighth and final playoff spot in the NE-10, boasting 12 points in nine league games
  • The Skyhawks have won two straight and three of five this month to increase their position in the standings
  • Junior James O'Shea leads the team with six goals and 13 points. Classmate Connor O'Brien has four assists to lead all players

As part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities, local rivals clash when the Navy and Gold host Southern New Hampshire at 6 p.m. at Martone-Mejail Field.
