Women's Volleyball Falters at Le Moyne in Three Sets

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In its first of two matches in New York this weekend, the Merrimack College women's volleyball team fell to Le Moyne College in three sets in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Friday evening.

How It Happened
- 1st set – The hosts won eight of the first 11 points to jump out to an five-point advantage over the Warriors. The Navy and Gold won four straight points to pull within four, 12-8, that included consecutive aces from sophomore Amanda Cain (Melrose, Mass.). With the Dolphins ahead 18-14, Le Moyne went on a 7-2 run to end the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match
- 2nd set – Merrimack led the majority of the second frame before the Dolphins rallied late in the set. Senior Jennifer Cain (Melrose, Mass.) struck a kill early on to put the Warriors ahead by three, 7-4. Sophomore Sofia Basauri (Beaverton, Ore.) kept Merrimack's advantage at three points, 14-11, and Juliette McCall (Torrance, Calif.) brought the Navy and Gold within four points of the set with a kill of her own. At that point, the Dolphins won five straight points and six of the final seven to collect a 25-22 set triumph
- 3rd set – The Dolphins surged forward in the final set of the evening. The score sat a 12-1 through 13 points of the frame. Another 5-0 spurt brought the ledger to a 23-7 mark before Le Moyne clinched the set and the match at 25-9
Inside The Numbers
- Amanda Cain posted one of her best defensive efforts of the year with her 10-dig effort while adding a pair of points on aces. The night marked her fifth double-figure dig total of the season
- McCall's posted Merrimack's best offensive effort, notching seven kills on 13 attacks for a .385 hitting percentage
- Le Moyne edged Merrimack at the net, totaling four block solos and 18 block assists. Six Dolphins finished with at least two block assists
- MILESTONE WATCH: Approaching the 4,000-assist plateau, senior Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) finished the night with 23 helpers to bring her career total to 3,992. She will become the second Warriors player ever to reach 4,000
