How It Happened (Game 1)
Facing their first Northeast-10 Conference opponent of the season, though the game was not considered a conference game, Merrimack would take an early 1-0 lead over New Haven in the second after freshman Caitlin McBride (Danvers, Mass.) scored on a New Haven throwing error to take the early momentum.
The Warriors would carry that momentum into the third as junior Tamarra Crowe (North Bend, Wash.) would rip an RBI double down the right field line to extend the lead to 2-0 early in the game. The Warrior pitching staff would manage to keep the Chargers of the scoreboard until the sixth inning.
New Haven would put up seven runs in the top of the sixth inning, taking a demanding 7-2 lead late in the game. Merrimack would add another run in the bottom of the seventh looking to rally to cut the deficit to 7-3, but that would be the final run they could manage.
How It Happened (Game 2)
In Merrimack's second game, the Warriors jumped on to a 2-0 lead after the top of the second as junior captain Samantha Waskowitz (Killingworth, Conn.) scored off a wild pitch in the first frame and she followed that up with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second.
Courtney Zambello (Sharon, Mass.) started the second game, battling through one inning before running into trouble in the second. The Wildcats put up four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-2 advantage after two. The Warriors responded with a three-run top of the third courtesy of a round-tripper from freshman Emily Kurkul (Bridgewater, Mass.).
Two more runs came across the plate for Wilmington in the bottom of the fourth, as the Wildcats scored on a Warriors error and a wild pitch. Waskowitz hit a run-scoring single to tie the game at six-all scoring fellow junior Mariah Tenney (Winchendon, Mass.), but in the bottom frame the Wildcats pushed across the eventual game-winning run.
