#12 NYIT Downs Women's Tennis, 9-0

MIDDLETON, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's tennis team opened up its spring slate with a match against No. 12 NYIT, falling to the Bears by a 9-0 final at the Northeast Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

How It Happened
 The Navy and Gold took on the Bears as part of six matches this spring. The visitors entered the match as the top-ranked team in the region. The Warriors slotted in at No. 10 in the most recent Oracle/ITA East Region Poll.

Junior captain Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and freshman Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) debuted at No. 1 doubles after finishing the fall as a pairing. Their opposition at first doubles won the match, 8-3. Sophomores Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) and Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) faltered at No. 2, while the freshmen pairing of Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) and Celine Mende (Shrewsbury, Mass.) dropped third doubles, 8-3.

The top-ranked Bears blew by the Warriors in singles play, not dropping a match for the 9-0 victory. Seifaei and Persson each won two games at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Mende debuted at sixth singles after playing there on nine occasions in the fall, winning a pair of games.
