How It Happened (G1)
The Warriors got Sunday started on the right foot as they would pick up a quick run in the top of the first inning in game one. After junior Mariah Tenney (Winchendon, Mass.) singled to left and then advanced to second with her sixth stolen base of the season, sophomore Alyssa Williamson (Scarborough, Maine) followed with a single of her own to move Tenney to third. Williamson then got caught in a rundown between first and second, allowing Tenney to run home.
Adelphi responded promptly in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homerun to retake the before the game reached the second inning. The next three innings would go by scoreless as junior captain Haley Currie (Burlington, Mass.) would allow no runs and just two hits in that stretch, retiring the side in both the second and fourth innings. An RBI-triple for the Panthers in the bottom of the fifth would extend their lead to 3-1.
After a scoreless sixth, the Warriors headed into the final inning trailing by two. Senior Brittany Razo (Anaheim, Calif.) would follow a leadoff walk with a single to put two runners on. The Warriors then beat out throws on two consecutive force-out plays to add a run and cut the deficit to two. Williamson then stepped in and hit a sac-fly in foul territory to tie the game up in top of the seventh, but two single followed by two walks in the bottom of the inning would give Adelphi the 4-3 win in game one.
