NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After guiding the Merrimack College women's ice hockey team through its inaugural season, assistant coach Kacey Bellamy helped lead the Boston Pride of the National Women's Hockey League to the first-ever Isobel Cup title to conclude the inaugural season of the NWHL this past weekend.
Bellamy, a two-time Winter Olympics silver medalist for the United States Women's Ice Hockey National Team, helped break ground on the historic first season on the NWHL, the first paid professional league for women in North America. Juggling a busy schedule of being both a traveling player and coach, she helped lead the Pride to a first-place finish in the regular season with a 14-3 record, scoring two goals and racking up 12 assists on the year for 14 points in 13 games played.
As the top seed in the playoffs, the Pride won four straight games on their way to the inaugural Isobel Cup title. Bellamy picked up four assists across the four games of the playoffs, including one in each of the Pride's wins in the Isobel Cup Final.
Also joining Bellamy in raising the first-ever Isobel Cup championship was volunteer assistant coach Zoe Hickel, who also juggled the hectic lifestyle of being a professional athlete while still finding time to get to Lawler Rink for practices and games to impart her knowledge on the young Warrior roster.
Bellamy will now quickly transition to the international stage, as she prepares for the International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship, where she will play with Team USA for the sixth time, looking to claim her fifth gold medal at the championships. Bellamy will travel up to Kamloops, Canada with the team for competition from March 28-April 4. Also taking part in the IIHF Women's World Championship will be junior captain Marie Delarbre (Fussen, Germany), who will play for Team Germany in the Division I Group A championship in Aalborg, Denmark from March 25-31.
