Women's Tennis Powers Past Eckerd, 8-1
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. – The Merrimack College women's tennis team won eight of nine points to take an 8-1 victory on Sunday afternoon from the Eckerd College women's tennis squad. The victory marks the Warriors first win of their spring slate.

How It Happened
Merrimack opened the match by sweeping the doubles portion of the match. Junior captain Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and freshman Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) triumphed at first doubles, 8-4. Second doubles went to a tiebreak, where sophomores Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) and Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) prevailed, 9-8 (1). Third doubles finished at the widest margin, as the rookie combination of Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) and Celine Mende (Shrewsbury, Mass.) won, 8-2.
At singles, the Warriors only fell in one contest. Messina started things off at No. 1 by a straight-sets victory, 6-0 and 6-1. Seifaei played a three-set contest at No. 2, forcing a third set following a 6-2 middle-frame victory. The final set went in favor of the opposition, 10-7.
At. No. 3-6, the Warriors prevailed in straight-set matches. Persson won her first game, 6-4, before not relinquishing a game in the second set. Blair prevailed in a similar fashion at No. 5, while Dunn and Mende won two-set contests at No. 4 and 6, respectively.
