How It Happened
Junior captain Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and freshman Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) paired at first doubles, dropping their match by an 8-4 final. Two more rookies in Celine Mende (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) lost by the same margin at No. 3. Second doubles resulted in a 8-3 loss for sophomores Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) and Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.).
Messina won her second singles match in as many days, 6-1 and 7-5, at No. 1. The matchup pitted Messina, the third-ranked singles player in the East Region, against Shannon Etten, the 10th-ranked player in the South.
The following five matches went in favor of the Tars, with no member of the Warriors winning more than two games in a set. Merrimack utilized the same singles lineup for the third straight contest.
