How It Happened
Aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time this spring, Merrimack met Coker for the first time in either side's program history on Tuesday in South Carolina.
Merrimack's most complete performance on both ends of the turf was on display in the first half, as the Warriors stormed out to an eight-goal lead with nine first-half markers.
In fact, the Warriors saw five different players score the first seven goals of the game – including two each from junior Hunter McCarthy (Avon, Conn.) and freshman Bridget Schofield (Littleton, Mass.) – before Coker found the back of the net with just under 11 minutes left in the half. But fellow freshman Amber Feminella (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) answered with her second tally of the game not even a minute later, and Schofield would secure her first career hat trick with 90 seconds to go in the half to send the visitors into the break with a 9-1 advantage.
Merrimack would stretch its lead to as much as 11, as Feminella assured herself a sixth straight hat trick to start her career with a goal less than two minutes into the second half. McCarthy would also record first hat trick since the season opener with her third of the game at the 26:01 mark, and Feminella found the back of the net for the fourth time to up the lead to 12-1.
Schofield would add one last tally for the Warriors to wrap up a career day, as Petzold would finish with four more saves in the second half to limit the Cobras to just two second-half goals and only three the entire day.
