Baseball Begins Six-Game Week at Bentley Monday

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Following its 3-1 weekend in a pair of doubleheaders at home, the Merrimack College baseball team heads out to Bentley University on Monday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch a DeFelice Field. The contest begins a six-game week for the Warriors, all of which are against Northeast Division foes.

Last Time Out:
Merrimack split two games of its doubleheader on Sunday against the University of New Haven from the Warrior Baseball Diamond.

Facing a 5-2 deficit entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Merrimack started a rally that resulted in 10 unanswered runs over the next three innings that orchestrated the comeback win. Shortstop Mike Forgione (North Branford, Conn.) provided the game-winning three-run double in the sixth that made it a 6-5 game. The Warriors scored five in the sixth, once in the seventh and three more times in the eighth.

In the Warriors' 4-1 week, the redshirt-junior led the Navy and Gold in nearly every offensive category. He topped the squad in average (.462), on-base percentage (.542), hits (10), RBI (11), runs (9) and doubles (6), increasing his season average to .337 and his 30 runs scored from the leadoff spot are tied for sixth in the Northeast-10.

Last Season vs. Bentley:
Merrimack won the season series with Bentley, taking two of the three games against the Falcons. The Warriors split two games at the home of the Falcons, including a 9-3 win in the series finale.

In that contest, juniors Tyler Lyne (Agawam, Mass.) and Cam DiSarcina (Shirley, Mass.) registered four-hit games. Senior Zach Schindler (Halifax, Mass.) went six innings on the mound, allowing on earned run, to collect the victory.

The Falcons:

  • Bentley is coming off a doubleheader sweep of American International on Sunday. The Falcons have won four of their last six after enduring a five-game losing streak
  • Nick Neshe leads the team with a .333 average, notching 25 hits in 75 at-bats. As a team, Bentley has a .238 average, the third lowest in the conference
  • Bill Sullivan has started 33 percent of the Falcons' games this season (8/24), posting a 4.03 ERA over 51.1 innings pitched
  • Bob DeFelice, the longest tenured coach in the conference, enters his 48th season with the Falcons

The Navy and Gold host Assumption and Saint Anselm on Wednesday and Thursday this week, respectively, with both games starting at 3:30 p.m.
