How It Happened
Merrimack continued a brief two-game home stand against Saint Anselm on Saturday eyeing its fifth win of the season.
Defense dominated the first half, which saw only a combined six goals between the two sides. The Hawks soared out to a 3-0 goal lead before freshman Bridget Schofield (Littleton, Mass.) got the Warriors on the board with 16:22 to go in the half.
The visitors responded just under a minute later, but junior Hunter McCarthy (Avon, Conn.) assured the Warriors had the last laugh by tallying her 23rd marker of the year to get the hosts to within two (4-2) at the half.
Each team traded goals in early in the second, with McCarthy netting her second off a feed from freshman Emma Bonassar (Wallingford, Conn.), but Saint Anselm pulled away by scoring seven of the game's next eight goals to close out the contest.
