How It Happened:
The Warriors put up three runs through the first two innings. In the first, an error in the ourfield allowed Mike Forgione (North Branford, Conn.) to score from second on a single from Sean O'Neill (Norwood, Mass.). In the Warriors' next at-bats, senior Bobby Losanno (Peabody, Mass.) singled home Matt Nicholson (Rockland, Mass.) before scoring from third while Forgione was caught in a rundown between first and second.
Sophomore PJ Browne (Rutland, Mass.) ran into trouble in the third inning, allowing four runs to score on a pair of two-run singles. Saint Michael's took a 4-3 advantage into the fourth inning.
The Navy and Gold scored one run in the fifth and sixth to take the lead back. Forgione was involved once again, scoring the game-tying run on a single from Cam DiSarcina (Shirley, Mass.). In the sixth, Matt Brown (Belmont, Mass.) crossed home on a sacrifice fly from Matthew Ronai (Orange, Conn.) to make it 5-4 Merrimack.
Browne battled through seven innings, striking out eight Purple Knights. Junior Nate Spielvogel (Brookline, Mass.) came out of the bullpen in the eighth, stranding the tying run on third in his first inning of work.
With two outs in the top of the ninth, Tyler Lyne (Agawam, Mass.) reached base with a double. DiSarcina, Merrimack's next batter, put a ball in play that was booted by the shortstop, allowing Lyne to race home for the Warriors' sixth run of the day. Spielvogel shut the door in the bottom half, striking out two of three batters to collect his third save of the year.
