Women's Lacrosse Suffers 13-3 Setback vs. #17 Bentley

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's lacrosse hosted another nationally ranked program on Saturday afternoon, taking on the 17th-ranked Bentley Falcons. The visitors used a prolonged scoring run in the first half to pull away, winning the Northeast-10 contest by a 13-3 final.

How It Happened
The local rivals opened the afternoon contest with a goal apiece over the first five minutes. The Falcons scored less than two minutes into the game, but the Warriors answered on a Bridget Schofield (Littleton, Mass.) tally at the 25:29 mark. The rookie darted out in front from behind the cage to open the scoring for the Navy and Gold.

From there, the Falcons scored three unanswered goals to prompt a Merrimack timeout with 21:03 remaining in the half. Later in the half, with the game at 6-1, sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Petzold (Ridgewood, N.J.) made two consecutive saves in the span of a minute to keep the deficit at five.

The visitors scored with 40 second remaining to make it a 7-1 score through 30 minutes. Petzold ended the half with three saves for the hosts.

Freshman Lauren Trepaney (Nashua, N.H.) started between the pipes in the second half, making four saves over the first 17 minutes of the second stanza. The Falcons scored four unanswered during that span to increase their advantage to 10-1.

Schofield halted the run by forcing a turnover and going coast-to-coast in transition to score her second of the game, making it 11-2 Bentley with 6:30 left in the second half. Freshman Amber Feminella (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) added a late second-half goal as well, but the Falcons won by a 13-3 final.
