NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College baseball team concludes its season series with American International on Wednesday afternoon when the Warriors travel to Springfield for a 3:30 p.m. contest

The Basics
Date/Time:
4/6 | 3:30 p.m.
Records: Merrimack (13-9, 3-2)
| AIC (6-20, 1-10)

Last Time Out:
Merrimack split a doubleheader with Saint Rose on Saturday in league play. Senior Zach Schindler (Halifax, Mass.) got the victory in the first contest, allowing only two runs in eight innings of work, striking out six Golden Knights.

The Merrimack offense put up seven runs, led by a three-hit day from senior Matt Brown (Belmont, Mass.). Seven different Warriors notched RBI, while Tyler Lyne (Agawam, Mass.) totaled a double and scored two runs. Brown hit over .600 on the week for the Navy and Gold, hitting his first-ever homer at the Warrior Baseball Diamond as well.

Senior catcher Pat Florence (Lowell, Mass.) picked up his fifth multi-hit game of the season, the most he has had in his four-year career. In fact, the five multi-hit contests is more than his previous three seasons combined.

Freshman Matthew Ronai (Orange, Conn.) continues to hit well after starting four straight contests. He has six hits in 15 at-bats since entering the starting lineup, adding two RBI and three runs scored.

Earlier this Season vs. AIC:
Redshirt-sophomore Michael Nocera (Bristol, Conn.) threw five innings in his first career start against the Yellow Jackets in March, striking out eight and not allowing a hit. Sophomore Matt Nicholson (Rockland, Mass.) totaled three hits, including his second triple of the year, in the 6-2 victory.

The Yellow Jackets:

  • A slumping American International squad has lost eight consecutive games, all of which have come in NE-10 play
  • Chris Starcun leads the attack with a .358/.432/.547 slash line, pacing the squad in all three categories
  • Nick Kennedy boasts a 2.95 ERA over six starts and 39.2 innings pitched to lead the rotation
