How It Happened
Merrimack returned home to welcome the defending national champions on Saturday looking to hand the Panthers their first loss in 10 tries.
Each team traded goals at the game's onset, with freshman Amber Feminella (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) tying the game at 1-1 less than four minutes in off a terrific feed from senior captain Danielle Riley (West Point, N.Y.).
The Panthers, however, would run off eight uninterrupted markers over the next 20 minutes to take control of the game. Feminella would get the Warriors a bit closer with a free position tally with only nine seconds left, as Merrimack entered halftime down by a 9-2 margin.
The Panthers would push their lead to double-digits with another six-goal run over the first 11 minutes of the second half, but Feminella answered again off a free position. After three more Adelphi tallies, the freshman sensation net her fourth on a pretty individual effort with less than two minutes to play, and the visitors would run out the clock from there on out.
