Men's Soccer Travels to AIC for NE-10 Opener

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's soccer team begins Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday evening when the Warriors travel to Springfield, Mass. to meet American International College for a 7 p.m. kickoff

Last Time Out:

  • The Warriors posted their first clean sheet of the season with a 1-0 win over Bridgeport. Sophomore Tyler Packett (Eastham, Mass.) collected four saves, making his second start of the year through four games
  • Senior Connor O'Brien (Sandwich, Mass.) connected with sophomore Lars Sund (Stavanger, Norway) for the game's lone goal. O'Brien picked up his first point of season, while Sund netted his first goal
  • Redshirt-junior Josue Ruiz Maya (Madero, Mexico) leads the team with five points entering NE-10 play
  • Jaime Cortes Torres (Seville, Spain) and Ruiz Maya are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece

Last Season vs. AIC:

  • After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Merrimack roared back to defeat the Yellow Jackets by a 4-1 margin
  • Cortes Torres, Juan Meza (Cali, Colombia) and Joseph Briers (Nottingham, England) all tallied goals for the Navy and Gold
  • Meza set a career high with four shots, all of which were on target

The Yellow Jackets:

  • AIC enters its conference opener with a 2-2 record, but have lost back-to-back games against Mercy and NYIT
  • Nikola Popovich boasts a team best three goals and six points, attempting 12 shots through four games
  • Sebastian Tamayo and Nicholas Romei have each started two games at goalkeeper. Last season, Tamayo started 15 games and totaled 91 saves for a .784 save percentage
