Women's Tennis Moves Past Saint Anselm, 7-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Merrimack College women's tennis team picked up its third straight win on Thursday evening, 7-2, over the Saint Anselm Hawks from the Saint Anselm Tennis Courts, improving to 6-1 in conference play.

How It Happened (Doubles)

  • No. 1 – Senior Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and sophomore Mana Seifaei (North York Ontario) improved to 7-0 this season as a duo with an 8-4 victory
  • No. 2 – Saint Anselm tied the contest at a point apiece with a six-game victory (8-2) over juniors Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) and Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.)
  • No. 3 – Sophomore Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) and freshman Mia Briggs (York, Maine) posted a convincing 8-1 victory at the third flight, picking up their fifth doubles win of the season

How It Happened (Singles)

  • No. 1 – Messina played in her second three-set match of the conference slate against Jess Perkins, who also took the nationally ranked Warrior to a deciding frame last season. The team captain won the first set, 6-1, before a 10-6 triumph in the third to win the flight
  • No. 2 – Seifaei continued her strong sophomore campaign with her fifth singles victory, all of which have come at second singles (6-4, 6-3)
  • No. 3 – Persson dominated the third flight, only faltering in one game to prevail in two sets (6-1, 6-0)
  • No. 4 – The Hawks secured their lone singles point during the fourth flight as Dunn brought the matchup to a 12th game in the first set before losing in two frames
  • No. 5 – Blair won her fifth match at the fifth flight and sixth overall on the season in two sets over Caroline Templer (6-2, 6-1)
  • No. 6 – Briggs once again prevailed at the final flight as she has done in all but one match this season, 6-0 and 6-1, against Bridget Keefe
