BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The No. 15 Merrimack College men's soccer program suffered its first loss of the 2016 season, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon against No. 8 LIU Post in the opening game of the Purple Knight Classic hosted by the University of Bridgeport.

How It Happened

  • 1' – After not starting in Merrimack's most recent game against Post, junior Cody Russell (Oceanside, Calif.) returned to action against the Pioneers
  • 9' & 17' – Senior Oscar Zepeda Cagide (Jalisco, Mexico) attempted two shots on goal, both of which were saved
  • 31' – LIU Post got on the board first, as leading scorer Charlie Ledula scored following a corner kick
  • 46' – Less than one minute into the second half, the Pioneers netted their second of the game to take a 2-0 advantage
  • 65' – The Pioneers converted on another corner, this time off the head of Alex Billington
  • 66' & 67' – Jason Lampkin & Harry Pearse tacked on tallies for the East Coast Conference squad to make it a 5-0 game
  • 67' – Freshman Tate Norman (Kelowna, British Columbia) replaced Russell to make his career debut for the Warriors
  • 76' – Senior Philippe Jean-Baptiste (Worcester, Mass.) attempted a penalty kick after a foul in the box, but his attempt was saved by Pioneers keeper Brian McPartland

  • Jean-Baptiste set a new personal best with a pair of shots on goal, while his penalty-kick attempt also marked a career first
