WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 24 Merrimack College men's soccer team will look to clinch a top-two spot in the NE10 standings on Friday afternoon against Assumption College at 4 p.m. The Warriors can finish no lower than fourth in the standings, which will guarantee a home game in the NE10 Championships. Merrimack can clinch the one seed with a win and an Adelphi loss or tie.

Last Time Out:
  • Merrimack battled to a hard fought 1-1 tie on the road against Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday night in very rainy conditions. The Warriors took a late 1-0 lead with time winding down in the first half off a free kick by senior Mattia Lanzi (Viterbo, Italy). However, it was a late strike by the Penmen in the second half that knotted things up in the 82nd minute. Senior keeper Lucas Rezende (Weymouth, Mass.) made five saves in net.
  • Freshman Filippo Begliardi Ghidini (Ravenna, Italy) leads the team with 17 points (7g, 3a) , while junior Lars Sund (Stavanger, Norway) has four tallies to go along with a team-high seven assists.. Lanzi has three goals and a pair of assists for eight points.
  • Rezende has nine clean sheets on the year, a career-high for the senior.

Inside the Series/Last Season vs. Assumption:
  • Last year Merrimack defeated Assumption, 1-0, from Martone-Mejail Field in double overtime. Lanzi provided the assist on the only goal. Junior Tyler Packett (Eastham, Mass.) made five saves in the game.
  • The Warriors have won eight straight against the Greyhounds, outscoring them 14-3 during that stretch.

The Greyhounds:
  • Assumption enters the game with a 5-10-1 overall record and are 3-8-1 in conference play. The last game was a 3-2 overtime loss to Stonehill on Tuesday afternoon. Simon Trcka scored both goals for the road team.
