Set Breakdown (STA)
  • Set 1: With the Warriors within three points at 9-6, the Hawks used an 8-3 stretch to build an eight-point advantage, 17-9. A kill from junior Sofia Basauri (Beaverton, Ore.) pulled Merrimack within six, but a run of six unanswered points brought the hosts within a point of frame, eventually winning by 11
  • Set 2: Saint Anslem doubled up Merrimack, 12-6, through 18 points, before sprinting to the finish. The Hawks used a 13-2 run to end the frame and take a 2-0 match lead
  • Set 3: The last set saw the Warriors fight to pull in front, 9-8, behind kills for senior Christina Nye (Plaistow, N.H.) and sophomore Rosie Sperduto (Brentwood, Tenn.). A back-and-forth set saw the Warriors within three at 18-15, but a 7-1 match-closing run gave Saint Anselm the victory
Set Breakdown (QUE)
  • Set 1: The Knights jumped out to a four-point lead early, but Merrimack fought point-for-point to climb within one on a pair of occasions, using points from senior Mary Kate McCarroll (Harrison, Ohio), Nye and Sperduto. In a 15-10 hole, consecutive kills from Nye followed by an error cut the deficit to two, 15-13, but a 10-4 spurt allowed the Knights to take the opener
  • Set 2: Junior Katelynn Marr (Franklin, Mass.) ignited a 5-0 start to the set with a pair of kills and two aces. Queens answered right back with an 8-0 run, however, in a frame of runs. Merrimack trailed 10-7, but pulled off five unanswered leads to snatch the advantage back. The Navy and Gold kept their foes at a distance from there, but with the score at 22-19, the Knights won six of the next seven points to win the game (25-23)
  • Set 3: Queens outlasted Merrimack to close the match. Tied at six-all, the Knights distanced themselves with a 12-5 run to build an 18-11 advantage. The score stood at 22-11 but a 6-0 run bookended by kills from freshman Karina Anderson (Newbury Park, Calif.) gave the Warriors some momentum, but the Knights buckled down to take three of the final four points to prevail
