BOSTON, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team could not rebound from an early deficit, falling to Northeastern, 2-0, on Friday afternoon in Hockey East play from Matthews Arena.

Rapid Recap:
- Northeastern came out with the early pressure and found the back of the net before the three-minute mark. The Huskies out shot Merrimack 13-5 in the opening period.
- Sophomore Mikyla Grant-Mentis (Brampton, Ontario) looked for the equalizer early in the period as a puck sat in the crease. However, Aerin Frankel scrambled around to knock the puck out of danger to keep a 1-0 Huskie lead.
- The Warriors had a great chance to tie it up midway through the second, as junior Annie Boeckers (Ostego, Minn.) received a pass in front of the net. Her wrist shot hit the right post and bounced away from the net. Merrimack could not convert on a pair of power plays in the period. A late goal in the second put the Huskies up by two.
- Merrimack had a power play at 11:15 of the third, and fired off seven shots. Only one of them got through to the net, as Northeastern blocked five shots. The Warriors had another power play with 3:05 left in the game and pulled the goalie as well. However, the visitors could not cut into the lead.
Scoring Summaries
- Northeastern scored at the 2:47 mark of the first, on a goal by Taytum Clairmont. She skated through the slot and lifted a backhanded shot into the net.
- With time winding down, the Huskies extended their lead with 2.5 seconds left in the second period. Maddie Hartman made it 2-0 on a shot from the point that made it through a bunch of players.
Notes and Notables
- The Warriors blocked 21 shots in the game, the second time the team has reached that plateau.
- It was only the third time this season that Merrimack had been limited to under 20 shots in a game.
- Merrimack's struggles continue on the power play, as the Warriors went 0-4 in the game and have only connected on the extra-man opportunity once.
- Grant-Mentis had a team-high five shots, while juniors Paige Voight (St. Michael, Minn.) and Katelyn Rae (Courtice, Ontario) each had three.
