Set Breakdown
  • Set 1: Merrimack hung with the defending regional champs early on. Facing a 12-9 deficit, Merrimack went on a 4-0 run to take a one-point lead. Freshman Karina Anderson (Newbury Park, Calif.) accounted for a kill and a block during the run. The team's traded points from there before AIC took a 21-17 lead, forcing a Warriors' timeout. The Navy and Gold pulled within three, 22-19, but that was as close as they would get with the Yellow Jackets prevailing, 25-20
  • Set 2: A combo block for McCarroll and junior Sofia Basauri (Beaverton, Ore.) put the Warriors in front, 7-5. Kills from McCarroll, Marr and freshman Catherine Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.) allowed the Warriors to maintain their lead through the midway point of the set. With the score at 19-15, AIC used a stretch of five unanswered points to go up one, 20-19. The Yellow Jackets won their first set point at 24-23, but a kill from Basauri extended the frame. The visitors won the next two, however, to take a 2-0 lead
  • Set 3: The visitors played their best in the third set. Flaherty notched a point to bring Merrimack within two, 12-10, only to see the Yellow Jackets win eight straight points. McCarroll notched two more kills over the final set of her career, but AIC prevailed, 25-14, to win in three
