Women’s Basketball Aims for 2-0 NE10 Start Tuesday at Southern New Hampshire

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Bringing a two-game winning streak back into Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday night, the Merrimack College women's basketball program will look to enter its Thanksgiving break with three wins in a row when the Warriors meet Southern New Hampshire at the SNHU Fieldhouse for a league tilt beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Last Time Out:
  • Junior Lindsay Werner (Groton, Mass.) scored a game-high 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting from distance to lead the Warriors to a 76-52 win at Nyack on Saturday
  • Werner was one of four Warriors in double figures, with freshman Mayson Kimball (Webster, N.H.) scoring a season-high 10 points and sophomore Giulia Orlando (Haverhill, Mass.) adding a career-high 11 points off the bench
  • Freshman Alyssa Casey (Andover, Mass.) was Merrimack's fourth player in double figures, adding 19 points in just 23 minutes of action. Casey averaged 18.0 ppg and 8.0 rebounds per game last week, earning her second consecutive NE10 Rookie of the Week award to begin the year
  • Merrimack hit a season-high 11 three-pointers in the victory
 
Team Leaders:
  • Through four games, Casey leads the Warriors in scoring (19.0 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg), ranking second in the NE10 in points per game
  • Werner currently paces Merrimack and the NE10 with 17 three-pointers, seven more than any other player in the conference. She is second on Merrimack in scoring with 18.8 points per contest
  • Junior guard Karlee Alves (Ellington, Conn.) leads the NE10 with 25 assists, an average of 6.3 per outing. Her 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks fourth among players who average at least 25.0 minutes per game
  • Merrimack is among the top-five in the NE10 in both scoring offense (67.8) and scoring defense (57.0)
 
The Penmen:
  • After dropping its first two games of the year, SNHU has rebounded to win back-to-back divisional games entering the matchup with Merrimack
  • The Penmen return a deep roster featuring seven upperclassmen and four seniors. Junior Kylie Lorenzen averages a team-best 17.5 points per game, with shooting splits of .490/.500/.808.
  • SNHU has six players shooting 34.5 percent or better from distance, connecting on 37.0 percent of its attempts as a unit. Defensively, however, the Penmen's opponents have hit 42.2 percent of their three-point attempts through four games
The Series:
  • Merrimack saw its three-game winning streaked against SNHU snapped with a pair of losses last year
  • Tuesday will be the 56th all-time meeting between the local rivals, with the Warriors owning a 32-23 advantage

The Warriors will enjoy an eight-day layoff between games, with Merrimack's next contest set for Wednesday, Nov. 29, when the Warriors play their home opener against Stonehill at 5:30 p.m. from Hammel Court.
