Men’s Basketball Faces Stonehill in Home Opener Wednesday Night

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After a seven-game start to the season that saw the Warriors play every game away from Hammel Court, the Merrimack College men's basketball program will finally commence the start of its home schedule on Wednesday evening when the Warriors welcome Stonehill College for a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference duel.  

Last Time Out:
  • For the third consecutive game, sophomore Juvaris Hayes (Paterson, N.J.) led Merrimack in scoring with 26 points, adding eight assists and six rebounds, but the Navy and Gold fell at Southern Connecticut, 82-78, in a non-league matchup in New Haven, Conn.
  • Three other Warriors scored in double figures, including a season-high 12 points for freshman guard Khalief Crawford (Linden, N.J.). Junior Ryan Boulter (Mansfield, Mass.) added 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting
  • Sophomores Jaleel Lord (Jersey City, N.J.) and Idris Joyner (Plainfield, N.J.) started for the first time this season. Joyner contributed 10 points, his third straight game in double figures and fourth overall this season
Team Leaders:
  • Hayes has continued to live up to expectations after his selection as a Preseason All-American. He leads the Warriors in points (19.9), assists (9.1), rebounds (7.6) and steals (3.6) per game
  • The Paterson native leads both the conference and the country assists per game and total assists (64). His 25 total steals lead the country, while he's sixth in the land with 3.57 thefts per contest
  • Boulter's 21 three-pointers lead the Warriors, ranking second in the NE10 in three-pointers made
The Skyhawks:
  • Stonehill picked up its second win of the season in its last game, a 75-73 upset of No. 19/22 Saint Thomas Aquinas
  • Three of the Skyhawks' four losses have come by five points or less. Stonehill boasts a divisional win against Saint Michael's to go along with defeats to Bentley and Saint Anselm
  • The Skyhawks employ a balanced offense that finds five players averaging in double figures. Sophomore Will Moreton leads the group with an average of 14.0 points per night Moreton also leads the group with 6.2 rebounds per outing.
The Series:
  • In one of the program's most storied rivalries, the Skyhawks and Warriors will play for the 116th time on Wednesday night
  • Stonehill holds a 73-42 advantage in the all-time series
  • Merrimack aims for its first win over Stonehill at Hammel Court since the 2012-13 season. The program's have split each of the last two regular-season series, with the road team winning on each occasion
