NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball program welcomes Saint Anselm to Hammel Court on Saturday afternoon when the Warriors host the Hawks at 1 p.m. in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Warriors will play tomorrow's tilt in support of pancreatic cancer awareness, partnering with Project Purple to join the fight against pancreatic cancer.

About Project Purple:
  • Project Purple is a Connecticut-based non-profit organization created to raise awareness, support patients and families affected by the disease, and fund research efforts to defeat pancreatic cancer
  • The organization will be on hand with an informational table in the lobby outside of Hammel Court, and will be raffling off a signed photograph of Boston Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes
  • For more details, including donation information, head to http://www.projectpurple.org/
Last Time Out:
  • Despite a season-high 28 points from freshman Alyssa Casey (Andover, Mass.), the Warriors suffered a 62-60 loss on Wednesday against Stonehill. The rookie made 12-of-24 from the field, the most shots made and shot attempts of her brief six-game career
  • Junior Karlee Alves (Ellington, Conn.) pulled down nine rebounds, her third game with at least nine from the point guard position
  • The Warriors totaled 12 steals, one shy of the team's season high. Casey and Alves combined for seven of the 12 thefts
Team Leaders:
  • Casey's scoring average jumped to 19.5 points per game, which is good for the third highest in the NE10, while she maintained her team rebounding lead with 8.0 boards per game
  • Junior Lindsay Werner (Groton, Mass.) maintained her league lead with 19 three-pointers through six games, currently ranking as the Warriors' second-leading scorer (16.3)
  • Alves leads the Warriors in assists per game (5.3) and steals per game (2.1)
The Hawks:
  • Division I transfer Shannon Ryan has emerged as one of the top players in the Northeast Division through the first half of the league slate. She leads the Hawks and the conference with 23.0 points and 11.6 rebounds per game
  • The Hawks are coming off a three-point win in their most recent matchup against SNHU, while winning five of their last six overall
  • Saint Anselm has struggled from three-point range, averaging 22.0 percent shooting from distance. The Hawks have countered that by employing one of the top three-point defenses, limiting their opponents to 26.8 shooting from beyond the arc
The Series:
  • Saint Anselm carries a five-game winning streak over the Warriors into tomorrow's action
  • The Warriors last beat the Hawks in November of 2014, allowing Saint Anselm to build a 45-25 advantage in the all-time series
  • The first meeting last season went to double overtime, with the Hawks holding on for a 76-70 win in Manchester
