NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Following a stellar month of January that was highlighted by her first-career hat trick and just the second in program history, freshman Mikyla Grant-Mentis (Brampton, Ontario) of the Merrimack College women's ice hockey team has been named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month for January, as announced on by the league on Friday.
This award marks just the second Rookie of the Month honor in program history and first for Grant-Mentis, as sophomore Katelyn Rae (Courtice, Ontario) also earned the award for the month of January during the inaugural 2015-16 season. Grant-Mentis has also twice earned Rookie of the Week honors this season.
The Brampton, Ontario native garners the award after posting nine points in eight games across the month of January, a stretch that was highlighted by the first-career hat trick for the rookie to lead Merrimack to its first ever win over Boston University, a 4-1 victory. She also registered a point in seven of eight games during the month and finished January on a still-ongoing four-game point streak, posting three goals and four assists for seven point in those four games.
Grant-Mentis and the Warriors host Maine this weekend for a crucial two-game series as the two teams battle for the final spot in the Hockey East playoffs.
