NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – First-year head coach Joe Gallo of the Merrimack College men's basketball team has been named the HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week, as announced by the national basketball publication on Tuesday morning.

Gallo led the Warriors to a 3-0 record last week that included a 100-94 overtime win against Southern Connecticut in the Navy and Gold's non-conference finale and two victories in divisional play over Saint Michael's College and Saint Anselm. The Warriors now hold a 17-6 overall record, the most wins for the program since back-to-back 21-win seasons from 2008-10. Merrimack advanced to the NCAA Tournament during both of those campaigns.

The Warriors are currently on their third winning streak of at least five games this season, and aim to tie their season-long run of six games set earlier this winter. With one more conference win, the Navy and Gold will equal their most wins in Northeast-10 Conference play since the 2011-12 season.

In the NE10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, Gallo and the Warriors were selected to finish in seventh out of eight teams in the Northeast Division. With five games to play in the regular season, Merrimack is one game out of first place.

The Warriors face a two-game slate this week beginning tonight at home against Stonehill College at 7:30 p.m. before travelling to division-leading Southern New Hampshire on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tilt.
