Men's Track & Field Competes at Bridgewater State Invitational Saturday

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Competing in raw weather conditions at the second meet of the outdoor season, the Merrimack College men's track & field team battled through to deliver another strong performance at the Bridgewater State Bears Invitational on Saturday.

Head coach Jacky Mendes, "Beginning the outdoor season in March can be difficult, but the Warriors showed that they persevere through cold weather. It's always a wonderful thing to change the record boards, this meet yielding five new marks for the men and eight for the women. We had a great meet to really kick off the season and are once again on track to continue to do amazing things."
How It Happened
- Sophomore Trevor Ciempa (Adams, Mass.) delivered the lone first-place finish for the Warriors at Bridgewater this past weekend, doing so in the high jump in a field of 17 athletes. Ciempa took home the win with a 1.92m jump. It is the best jump in the Northeast-10 Conference so far this outdoor season.
- The Warriors also garnered a pair of runner-up finishes on the track at Bridgewater State. Senior John Spencer (North Haven, Con.) posted a second-place finish in the 110m hurdles, running a time of 15.75 to beat out 13 other runners. Junior Connor Murphy (Paxton, Mass.) picked up where he left off after a solid indoor campaign, finishing second in the 1500m at Bridgewater with a time of 4:04.58.
- Sophomore Aidan Friend (Mansfield, Mass.) added a fourth-place finish for the Warriors on the track, doing so in the 100m at a time of 11.30. Classmate Michael Cuesta (South Portland, Maine) finished close behind in seventh-place, posting a time of 11.37.
- Cuesta was one of a trio of Warriors to earn a seventh-place finish for Merrimack, with a pair of rookies garnering the other two finishes. Patrick Whyte (Bloomfield, Conn.) finished seventh in the long jump at Bridgewater with a 5.86m jump, while Daryl Loreus (Malden, Mass.) finished seventh in the triple jump at 11.49m. Both were personal bests for the freshmen.
- Fellow freshman Jake Fogarty (Methuen, Mass.) delivered quality performances in two throwing events for Merrimack, highlighted by a ninth-place finish in the javelin with a 48.95m throw, ranking third on the school record board. He also added a personal-best 10.62m shot put.
